Interested in volunteering? We would love to hear from you! We need a variety of volunteers to help out at our new location at 8 Main North Rd Gawler, details below.
Centre/Admin Volunteer
Tue morning and/or afternoon negotiable
Help us keep the GEC running smoothly! Example duties include preparing items for the Grow Free Cart, getting ready for weekly events, promoting events and projects on social media and through our e-news, helping with grant applications, and much, much more. Some office/community centre experience preferred, but not essential. Tasks will vary from week to week, but there will always be lots to do!
Garden Volunteers
Tue, Wed or Thu, morning and/or afternoon negotiable
We have big plans for our garden spaces, including a bee and butterfly attracting garden in the front yard, and a water wise demonstration garden out the back. These projects are in the planning stage, so duties at the moment consist of weed management, preparing the garden areas for work to take place, and helping with grant applications to fund infrastructure. Some gardening experience preferred, but not essential. If you have a few hours available a week to help us get started we would love to hear from you.
Gawler Repair Cafe Volunteers
Repair Cafes provide a free meeting space where community members can work with skilled volunteers to repair items that would otherwise go to waste. Gawler Repair Cafe runs on the third Saturday of every second month, starting in February (December session is on the second Saturday).
Reception Volunteers
Duties include setting up the repair cafe areas before attendees arrive, greeting attendees, recording information about items to be repaired, scheduling timeslots with repairers, recording repair results, and helping to pack up at the end of the session.
Cafe Volunteers
Duties include setting up the repair cafe areas before attendees arrive, setting up the cafe area, serving tea, coffee and snacks to repairers and attendees, and helping to pack up at the end of the session.
Repair Volunteers
We are after skilled volunteers who can conduct repairs on small electrical items and/or general household items (mechanical/woodwork etc).
Time commitment is usually for 2-4 hours per event.
