We are very excited to announce that the GEC will soon be launching a Repair Café for the Gawler community! Repair Cafes provide a free meeting space where community members can work with skilled volunteers to repair items that would otherwise go to waste. Repairs can be made available for items such as furniture, clothing and jewelry, toys, bikes and small electrical appliances. Services are provided free of charge by volunteers but customers can choose to make a small donation to support the service if they wish.
The first Gawler Repair Café will take place on Sat 19 September at 43 High St Gawler East, between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Repair Cafes usually run on a drop in basis but due to current Covid restrictions you will need to book in for a half hour appointment on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/gawler-repair-cafe-tickets-116853224139
Repairs available on the day will be sewing/mending, jewelry, bikes, small electrical, general/mechanical/woodwork. We have a Covid Safe Plan in place and will ensure that all social distancing and PPE requirements are met.
We would also like to point out that all repairs are conducted at the discretion of the repairer i.e. if the repairer doesn’t think an adequate repair can be provided a repair won’t be attempted. There are also items it is too dangerous to repair, such as microwave ovens, TVs, or other items likely to hold charge. If in doubt please get in touch in advance and let us know what you will be bringing. Repairs are limited to one item per person per Repair Café booking.
If you would like any further information, or if you are interested in becoming a Repair Café volunteer, please contact GEC Coordinator Kathy on 8115 4620 or coordinator@gawlerenvironmentcentre.org.au
We are grateful for the support provided to this project by the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science through the Communities Environment Program.
