At Gawler Environment Centre (GEC) we work with our local community to encourage action on sustainable living and environmental protection. Our focus is knowledge sharing and taking action together, and we present a wide variety of workshops, projects and events every year. A major focus is the Understory Project, which gives our community the opportunity to purchase low cost native plants grown from locally sourced seed by Gawler Environment and Heritage Association volunteers. We hold a plant pick-up day in June each year. We also run the Sustainable Living Festival, the Eco Coffin Project, and will soon be launching a Repair Café.
Our workshops encompass everything from wicking beds and snake awareness, to natural dyes, bee-keeping and making beeswax wraps. In the first half of 2020 we will be running a Living Smart course for young people, hosting our first series of Eco Coffin workshops, and continuing with our regular Eco Arts and Crafts Gathering.
We are a community run incorporated body based in the Town of Gawler Administration Centre (43 High Street, Gawler East SA 5118) along with the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board Office.
