Common Name: Kangaroo grass
Description: Tufted, perennial grass with green/grey/sometimes bluish leaves that change to an orange/brown in Autumn. Flowers in Summer, producing large red/brown spikelets.
Growing and distribution: Needs about 400mm average rain but also likes drainage areas in lowe rainfall. Ensure that thatch does not become too dense or plant dies in centre.
Beneficial attributes: Aborgines ground the seeds to make damper. Leaf and stem fibres used to make string and string bags. Caterpillar food plant.
Excelllent habitat for birds and insects.
