At Gawler Environment Centre (GEC) we work with our local community to encourage action on sustainable living and environmental protection. Our focus is knowledge sharing and taking action together, and we present a wide variety of workshops, projects and events every year. A major focus is the Understory Project, which gives our community the opportunity to purchase low cost native plants grown from locally sourced seed by Gawler Environment and Heritage Association volunteers. We hold a plant pick-up day in June each year. We also run the Sustainable Living Festival, which will be happening again in October 2019.
Our workshops encompass everything from wicking beds and snake awareness, to natural dyes, bee-keeping and making beeswax wraps. In the first half of 2019 we will be running a series of practical workshops on building wicking beds, raingardens and vertical gardens, plus starting a regular eco arts and crafts gathering.
We are a community run incorporated body based in the Town of Gawler Administration Centre (43 High Street, Gawler East SA 5118) along with the Natural Resources Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Gawler Office.
